The Blue Iguana and I

I have a singing bit part in the new 2018 Sam Rockwell comedy thriller Blue Iguana, which is released in the USA on August 24th 2018. I've put together some detailed reportage about my involvement in the film, and have also published a long interview with the director Hadi Hajaig. These items are available on my dedicated Dino Laine website here:

My interview with director Hadi Hajaig starts on this page:

My account of my long day in front of the camera, Just like George Plimpton, starts here:

And I have an account of observing a night's filming at the Natural History Museum on this page:

I've given Dino Laine a somewhat unreliable backstory, based on the fact that in my one scene, the villain Deacon Bradshaw seems to be a good friend of mine. 'Bravo Dino!' These pages also include a copy of my call sheet for my day's filming and a copy of the page of the Blue Iguana shooting script for the bar room scene that introduces Deacon and his posse. That section begins here:

I also wrote a cowboy-style theme song for the film, The Ballad of the Blue Iguana, which in the end wasn't used for the film. So sad!

Why wouldn't they want someone doing a Dean Martin impersonation singing a Marty Robbins-style song in 2018? I don't know, either. However, the demo version of that song is now on my Youtube channel, here:

Now the song stands as a kind of unique singing review of the film. I cover most of the characters, as played by Sam Rockwell, Ben Schwartz, Amanda Donohoe and Peter Ferdinando. I talk about the song in detail, starting here:

I'm particularly proud of the lines referring to Peter Ferdinando's character Deacon Bradshaw:

Dirty words and dirty dealin', dirty shirts and dirty stealin', life to him is just a killin' game.
But his momma gives the orders and he's right up on the borders of completely insane.

Fully in the tradition of Frankie Laine! Yes indeed, he is a 'South Yorkshire nutter who rules by fear.'  However, the line in the song was originally 'Cockney Geezer, Deacon Bradshaw rules by fear.' Until Peter Ferdinando was cast and decided to adopt a quite perfect South Yorkshire accent for the character, hence the change.

Here are the full lyrics:

The Ballad of the Blue Iguana
words and music, Tom Tunney, copyright control/PRS.

The Blue Iguana, when two knights in shining armour hit London Town.
No top bananas, they're packin' heat, they're gonna shake those Limeys down.

'Cause when a gunman meets a woman, you never know what's comin', that's for sure, that's for sure
'Cause she's pert, prim and pretty, the Princess of this city and much more, oh so much more.

The Blue Iguana, Eddie and Paul, they want it all and they want it now
The Blue Iguana, takin' chances, livin' fast, they'll show you how

Sparklin' diamonds, double-crosses, dodgin' bullets and crime bosses, deadly fun, they're on the run
Listen, Big Ben is a peelin' and the villains all are reelin' and, for Eddie, She's the One.

The Blue Iguana, South Yorkshire nutter Deacon Bradshaw rules by fear.
So much bad karma, blood will flow and bullets fly now that he's here.

Dirty words and dirty dealin', dirty shirts and dirty stealin', life to him is just a killin' game.
But his momma gives the orders and he's right up on the borders of completely insane.

The Blue Iguana, a dizzy prize of priceless wealth for they who dare
The Blue Iguana, a sizzlin' saga of love and murder and bad hair

She's a gal with sex appeal in a world where's nothin's real but loot and lies, just loot and lies.
He's a dude with attitude and when he's in the mood, he'll make her fly, they'll fly so high.

(instrucmental break)

But with that look in her eye, he'd be happy to die for just one kiss, just one kiss
And with her hands on his trigger, his love is growin' bigger, this is bliss, oh this is bliss!
